"The Matriarch"

“The Matriarch” Invisible Woman (character created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, owned by Marvel Comics) is a mosaic framed in a mirrored frame, inspired by the art of Steve McNiven.  Two types of glass were used in this mosaic, standard mirror and clear waterglass mirror. The piece measures 25x33in. All pieces have been cut and placed entirely by hand on pretreated plywood.

Susan Storm Richards  is a founding member of the Fantastic Four and the first female superhero created by Marvel during the Silver Age of comics.  After exposure to a cosmic storm, Sue uses her powers of invisibility to project powerful fields of invisible energy which she uses for a variety of offensive and defensive effects.

Being the first female superhero in the Marvel Silver Age, Susan would set the standard for women in Marvel comics for years to come. Sue raises her brother after losing her parents, manages the financial assets of the Fantastic Four, marries and rears children.  She is the definition of a mother figure but also is a formidable heroine and the single-most powerful member of the Fantastic Four. She has fought PsychoMan, Hate-Monger, Dr Doom, the Hulk, Galactus, and even a Celestial. She protects the planet against all kinds of dangers.  She embodies the definition of Heroic.

“Saving universes has become second nature.  But have we forgotten, along the way, that the most awesomely heroic test of all... is it to be a good man, or woman? Parents? A family?”.....Sue Storm Richards.
