"Somewhere"

“Somewhere”  The Land of Oz is based upon the children’s book “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (created by L. Frank Baum, with illustrations by W.W. Denslow.) and the movie, “The Wizard of Oz.”  This mosaic is Glass on Wood, using stained glass and glass beads.  All pieces have been cut and placed entirely by hand.  It measures 31.5x42.5in framed.  The glass beads are glued on a painted background.  Then piece is grouted with two colors of sanded grout.

The story chronicles the adventures of Dorothy, in the magical Land of Oz after she and her pet dog Toto are swept away from their Kansas home by a tornado. The Library of Congress has declared it "America's greatest and best-loved homegrown fairytale".

There are a few differences between the movie and the book: Dorothy doesn’t meet Glinda until the end; rather, the Good Witch of the North is the one to greet her when she comes to Oz. The book doesn’t end with the wizard taking off in a hot air balloon—Dorothy travels south to find Glinda and has more adventures. And while Oz turns out to be a dream in the movie, it’s a real place in the book.

You see in the book Oz is real.  It’s not a dream.  A natural disaster can bring you to a wonderful land of amazing adventure.  During a storm you can see a rainbow.

Somewhere……there is no place like home.
