"Trusted Companion"

"Trusted Companion," R2-D2 (character created by George Lucas, owned by The Walt Disney Company) is a glass on glass mosaic, inspired by a scene in "The Force Awakens."  R2 consists entirely of stained glass. The piece measures 29.5 x 35.5 inches framed. All pieces have been cut and placed entirely by hand on 1/4 in. glass. This piece can be lit from behind to give it a stained glass window look.  It is grouted with black sanded grout.

A resourceful astromech droid, R2-D2 served Padmé Amidala, Anakin Skywalker and Luke Skywalker in turn, showing great bravery in rescuing his masters and their friends from many perils. A skilled starship mechanic and fighter pilot's assistant, he formed an unlikely but enduring friendship with the fussy protocol droid C-3PO.  A smart, spunky droid serving a multitude of masters over its lifetime, R2 never had a full memory wipe nor has he received new programming, with these factors resulting in an adventurous and independent attitude. Oftentimes finding himself in pivotal moments in galactic history, his bravery and ingenuity saved the galaxy time and time again.

The Smithsonian Institute states that “With its stubby cylindrical body and playful whistles and beeps, the lovable Star Wars’ robot R2-D2 is just the right mix of man and machine.”  We all love R2. Not only does this little droid have the ability to interact with every computer in the know galaxy but also embodies everything one could ask for in a best friend. He is loyal, funny, caring, and adventurous.   He would gladly “run” into the fray to help his companions, regardless of harm to himself. Sometimes his mischievous nature, although always leading to the success of the Rebellion, can lead to some interesting predicatments for his human counterparts.

“You know, that little droid is going to cause me a lot of trouble.” “…Oh, he excels at that, sir.”
